Preventing Falls: The Role Of Physical Exercise
Two members of the Lisbon_AHA network joined forces once again for a unique event last week. Building on previous efforts, this time NOVA Medical School and Junta de Freguesia de Arroios, through Academia Sénior de Arroios, took the students outdoors. The initiative lasted about an hour and a half, and was led by a medical doctor (Prof. Dr. Ana Rodrigues), a physiotherapist (Alexandre Moniz), and a Tai Chi instructor (Carla Nunes). Participants engaged in a dynamic game blending theory and practice, guided by physiotherapist Alexandre Moniz, followed by a Tai Chi class, a regular in the Academia Sénior de Arroios schedule. The objective of this activity was to conclude the module on “Physical Exercise for Fall Prevention” previously addressed in a theoretical class, and demonstrate how physical exercise can be integrated into the daily lives of each participant. Interactive game organized by NMS. Tai Chi class. It is well known that regular exercise is crucial for the elderly, enhancing physical health, mental well-being, and social engagement. Initiatives like this one are vital not only for promoting this cause but also for fostering closer ties between the Academia and the Community.
